It Happened One Autumn (Book 2 The Wallflowers) by Lisa Kleypas

It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers, #2)

Book Blurb:
Four young ladies enter London society with one necessary goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. So they band together, and a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.

It happened at the ball...

Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren't entirely "the thing." And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London's most eligible aristocrat.

It happened in the garden...

When Marcus shockingly—and dangerously—swept her into his arms. Lillian was overcome with a consuming passion for a man she didn't even like. Time stood still; it was as if no one else existed...thank goodness they weren't caught very nearly in the act!

It happened one autumn...

Marcus was a man in charge of his own emotions, a bedrock of stability. But with Lillian, every touch was exquisite torture, every kiss an enticement for more. Yet how could he consider taking a woman so blatantly unsuitable...as his bride?

Angie J's review:

Ok so I was introduced to this series by a friend and thought "Eh historical fiction??  ME??  Prolly not but Ok for Susan I will read them."  Wow was I wrong.  I loved these books.  This is my favorite book in the series which is why I am reviewing it.  Westcliff and Lillian kept me laughing at their HATE for each other all the while the readers knowing it was their PASSION.   I loved how high handed Westcliff was about Lillian.  She was sooo not going to have it at all.  The author definitely lets you know what life for a woman was either of stature or not.  It gives you a peek into what was seen as inappropriate and lets you know how people of the time got around some of the rules. I loved the plotting that the women of the series do to ensure each is married off and not left to be a spinster.

I have never read a historical fiction before now and I have to say I am looking forward to reading The Hathaways which is the series spin off from The Wallflowers.  Each of the books in this series is very well written.  I enjoyed getting to know each of the couples and what they had to do to finally admit their feelings for each other.
